Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub in Fruitty Watermelon Review

It's still February so I shall continue on with my line of product reviews on local brands.

The one thing that cold weather can do is dry up your lips. Here am I complaining about the cool weather we've been experiencing in the Philippines when it's not nearly as cold as snow. I've gotten so used to the heat that when it dips to 19-21°C, I shiver and usually feel under the weather.

So for Chinese New Year, I grabbed the opportunity to purchase an item on BeautyMNL to take advantage of their offer of free shipping. And since my lips needed some TLC, I decided to buy myself a lip scrub to exfoliate my lips.

There were many lip scrubs to choose from. Skin Genie and Detail Lip Scrubs were the most affordable at 100 and 99 Pesos. Detail variants were all sold out. I was about to buy Skin Genie's Sexy Pout Lip Scrub when I saw Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub. What caught my eye is one written review of a user who compared both Skin Genie and Bare Body Essentials. So, I decided to add a little more to my budget and get Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub in Fruitty Watermelon for 120 Pesos before BeautyMNL ran out of stock. There were only 4 left.

After waiting for almost 10 days, I finally got my lip scrub. Now, it's time to try it.

Fast Facts: Sloughs off dead cells to remove flakes and roughness; helps reveal newer skin cells for a more youthful look; hydrates lips as it locks in moisture to prevent drying and cracking; sweetly formulated for an enjoyable experience; safe if small amount are accidentally ingested.

Packaging

Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub comes in 3 "Flavors": Fruitty Watermelon, Mint and Bubblegum.

The lip scrub comes in a small container so, it's easy to slip into your small pouch and take it with you if you feel you need to scrub your lips before you put on some lipstick (matte lipstick looks really awful if you have dry skin on your lips). You get 15g of the product and you can smell the watermelon even through its plastic seal. According to the label with an obvious typo, the Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub Improved Formula is 'a natural expoliator (should be exfoliator) that is made of shea butter, carrier oil and sugar crystals infused with watermelon extract'. Bare Body Essentials, I think you need to re-do your labels... unless you are trying to be a funny Pinoy who interchanges the P's and F's. Example:"It's so punny...feriod."😁

Ingredients

Shea Butter, Beeswax, Sunflower Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Sugar Crystals, Flavoring and Food Color

Texture and Fragrance

Of course since it is made of sugar crystals, it is a bit grainy in texture but somewhat softer than I had anticipated and wet due to the oil. As I said earlier, you can smell the watermelon through the packaging. Once opened, it smelled so good enough to eat. Just like candy.

Claim to Fame

A natural exfoliating scrub that reveals softer, smoother lips and is perfect for making lipsticks, lip gloss and lip liner more vibrant and longer lasting.

How to Use

Using a small amount, scrub gently on lips for at least a minute.

My Thoughts on using Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub in Fruitty Watermelon

I know it is somewhat gross, but I really had really thick dry skin all over my lower lip. If I would peel it off using my fingers, my lips would bleed. This is why I had to take charge and get my hands on some heavy duty lip scrub. I read some really good reviews on Maybelline Lip Scrub Stick. I don't think it's available (yet) in the Philippines and if it were available, it'll probably be pricey. So, a local brand it is.

Back to Bare Body Essentials, since I had really thick skin on my lower lip, it took 3 scrubs to slough off all that skin. Actually after 2 scrubs, my lips felt smooth but there was still some bits of dry skin left and I got it all off after the third. The thing is, after all that scrubbing, my lips felt a little bruised and raw. Serves me right for not taking care of my lips.

It took every ounce of self-restraint I had to not eat the scrub. I tasted some on the edge of my lips and it tasted like candy. And my lips smelled like watermelon and turned pink after scrubbing. After washing the scrub off, my lips tasted very sweet. Yum!

I made sure to put some lip balm after to help heal my lips and to lock in more moisture.

All in all, it does its job. It helped me remove all that dried up skin and roughness off my lips. Now, I have smooth and pinkish lips. It also help take some of the brown tinge off my lips which I feel is from all the coffee I drink.

It's affordable and is small enough to slip in a small purse for emergency purposes. It smells great and leaves your lips tasting sweet which is great if you are going to kiss someone. 💋

Do I Recommend Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub?

Yes, I do. It does what it claims to do and it isn't expensive which is great for the budgeting mom who needs to give some well needed TLC to her lips. According to the reviews, Bubblegum and Fruitty Watermelon are the 2 flavors recommended by users. As for the Mint flavor, users have complained about the smell. They say it smells like old oil. Well, I can't say for sure since I haven't tried it. But, since I'm happy with watermelon, I'll just stick with this flavor.

The Bare Body Essentials Lip Scrub in Fruitty Watermelon makes exfoliating your lips an easy and enjoyable experience without breaking the budget for smooth kissable lips. 😉
